Kaito blinked, finding his gaze fixed on the crumpled letter resting on the rough-hewn table top. The letter that he had been reading up and down for the past three cycles. The parchment, now a harbinger of fate, bore words that weighed heavier than any blade he had wielded, heavier still than taking the life of the ill-fated. Words that carried orders which would shed more innocent blood than he could stomach. His mind wandered in his half-wake trance.
